Perfect Curl Up Chair

Now that I am back home, I get to continue to work on my never ending quest for the perfect book nook.  Today I need to find the perfect chair to place in the center of all that great bookiness.  Let's explore some ideas shall we?

One of my fire house book club chica's found this for me...unfortunately I can't find an origin place for it so if anybody can tell me where to find it...

Amelie French Country Grey Literary Script Tufted Accent Chair

Besides having to learn French, I love this chair because of it's unique yet classic shape.  I also like that it is a bit more neutral so I can repaint my nook as many colors as I want...and with my love of change that is probably gonna happen a lot.

A comfy chair with the added bonus of not having to get up to start my next book!

Sadly this discontinued chaise lounge would have been the perfect combination of comfort and style for my nook...of course if I bat my eyelashes hard enough maybe I can convince them to bring it back!

How incredibly comfy does this chair look?!?  I can totally see myself curled up in this with my fuzzy blanket and a cup of coffee reading the hours away...and it's red so bonus!

First full day in the new house and I am exhausted...but....I did get a spot of reading in.

The Anatomy Of A Good Reading Day

There is nothing like have a few hours to yourself to just read!  The vast majority of the time that is all I want to do, and unfortunately most of my reading is done on the fly so when I get a few solid hours to devote to reading, I want it make it as perfect as possible.  Here is my breakdown of a perfect day of reading.

The Book - Obviously the best part of a reading day is actually reading, so book selection is paramount.  I have found that I enjoy myself the most when my book matches the season/environment/current book craving.  For me this means reading certain books in certain seasons, or maybe gathering a couple of books to really make sure I have the exact right one. This is the most variable of components in a reading day.

The Environment - The next component in a great reading day is the environment.  I like a comfy place that has minimal distractions (I have a hard time reading if there is a tv on...I get too distracted) and a very comfy place to curl up.  This can be any number of places.  I love to read outside, especially int he fall and spring.  Summer time see's me at the pool or beach.  Cold days or tired days you can find me in my comfy reading chair.  I am also a huge fan of pillows/blankets/cushions to really ensure total comfort.  I regularly keep a zillion various cushy items to pad my chosen reading spot and am not above bringing a couple of pillows with me to the great outdoors.  I also really love a unique spot outside of my home zone.  This includes libraries, gardens, restaurants, boats, and well just about anywhere that inspires me.  On vacation my Hubbin has learned to build in at least a couple of hours for me to read in a new local spot.

Libations - I love having the perfect drink next to me while I read...I like it even better when somebody else makes it for me and keeps it full.  I am not horribly picky when it comes to my beverages, I sometimes like to match it to my book, and definitely the weather/environment play a role, but really that's about it.  My favorites include, coffee, tea, wine, Hubbin made cocktails, hot chocolate, cider (hot or cold), occasionally beer or a nice sipping whiskey...pretty much anything that is sippable and enhances the experience.

Snacks - For me it all depends on how I'm feeling as to whether or not snacks are necessary.  Sometimes a certain book will trigger a food craving, or if I'm snacky in general its nice to have some munchies.  My problem is food can get distracting, especially if it's messy, making me pause in my reading to eat.  For the most part any thing I can eat with out utensils or needing to use a napkin after every bite works the best.  I have found a nice box of gourmet chocolates hits the spot.  All that being said, I have on many occasion purposely gone out by myself for a meal at a restaurant with the sole purpose of eating and reading and I find my ebooks work really well for this type of reading day.

Technology - As a general rule, I usually try and banish all technology when I am doing some dedicated reading.  I turn off my phone, tv, computer, and any other distractions and just allow myself to get lost in my books.  The exceptions to this are obviously if I am reading an ebook or if I'm reading something that requires/inspires a quick bit of research...I'll use my phone for that.

If I can get all of these elements to come together at the same time I know I am in for some happy times.  I have spent a lot of time reading and am adept at quickly assembling all components of a perfect reading day anytime I find I have carved out some time.  On that note, it looks like I have a little bit of time now so off I go to brew some coffee and grab a blanket and book.  Happy Reading Everybody!

The Perfect Day Of Reading

I have really been getting my reading on lately and I have to tell  you that it has been WONDERFUL!  Today is no exception with the perfect fall weather, a cup of coffee, my snuggly blanky and a good book.

So instead of one of the many many ramblings I had planned, I am going to go read some more.  Happy Reading Everybody!

I'm Done

I'm done with the bitter cold, I'm done with work, I'm done with being stuck inside.  I'm done with stupid politics and the media who reports on all the inane and buries the good stuff.  I'm done with selfish people, I'm done with stupid drivers who cut me off and then go 10 mph below the speed limit. I'm done with people not doing what they said they would do.  I'm just done!

So if anybody needs me I will be curled up in my chair, ignoring the real world and hiding out in the various places created for me by the wonderful folk we call authors.  Unless you are bringing me coffee, please do not disturb :-)  Happy Reading Everybody!

Cozy Comfy Chair

I would like to introduce you all to the newest member of my family...meet Antonio...my new super awesome comfy reading chair!

This is the hugest most comfiest most curl-upable chair in the whole entire universe!!!!  My amazing Hubbin got it for me for an early birthday present so I can enjoy all of fall curled up with a good book, and a cup of coffee!

You may remember that last year my beloved blue recliner died and I had not yet replaced it, so finally having another comfy chair is pretty awesome. it is right by my porch door so I can open it and get all the fresh air and yummy rain smell I want right from the comfort of my own chair.

What is your favorite chair to read in?  Do you claim your spot as your own or do you generously share with others?  Do you also feel the odd need to name all your stuff?

RIP Comfy Chair

Today I had to say good-bye to a dear friend of mine...the blue recliner chair that has been one of my favorite reading spots for years :-(

This chair has been in the family for years, my Mamma was diagnosed with MS about 21 years ago and Daddy bought her the chair to help support her during episodes.  The chair was quickly claimed by Daddy who could frequently be found napping in it.  When I moved out as a gesture of love and family the chair was passed onto me (still smelling of Daddy's aftershave).  The chair has moved with me through several states, numerous apartments and a wedding.  I have curled up in it every time I have felt homesick, sad, happy, tired or more importantly to read.  My favorite thing is to get my fluffy blankets, cup of coffee and a good book in my special chair.  Alas nothing last forever and the chair after multiple fixes has finally succumbed to old age and much abuse.  So now my new mission is to find the perfect reading chair, the following are a few options I have found (some a tad more practical then others)

Look built in bookshelves, very convenient

Now I can read my e-books too
