It's Like They Know Me!

Hello All, I hope everybody had a great whatever they choose to celebrate (or not) this season.  I was as always spoiled rotten.  Seriously folks my family and friends know me so well it's not even funny.  This year's haul included my Kindle Fire from the Hubbin so I can not only read any book at any time, but it is so high tech and usable I can actually write a lot of my posts on it  YAY HUBBIN!  Mammasan went WAAAAAAAAY above and beyond and got me the ultimate combo gift.  It is the book  As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride  by Cary Elwes...who I may have wanted to marry since I first saw the movie The Princess Bride.  To make it even more epic...she some how managed to have it signed by the Dread Pirate Roberts himself, Mr. Cary Elwes!!!!!  A small freak out may have commenced upon opening of said gift.  My baby sis of course found the best collection of books that not are only readable, but look amazing on my bookshelf.  I got a bunch of other cool stuff too...'cause you know...spoiled, including a Game of Thrones inspired card and an epic hand drawn dinosaur that goes RAWR...'cause we all know that is exactly what they say...no screeching here lol.  Anyways  I am looking forward to some quality reading time so if I go MIA I'm probably curled up in my reading chair with a huge stack of books.  Happy Reading Everybody!

Random Christmas Bookyness

Finally got our Christmas shopping done in an EPIC marathon this weekend.  Here is the results of our quest for the perfect gifts of awesomeness while still staying on a budget.

Turkish Delight
We found this great candy store called Lolli and Pops (I am a huge fan of candy stores!).  Hubbin handed this to me saying, "Isn't this a thing in one of your favorite books?, you should get it for your book shelf."  One of the many reasons I love Hubbin, also my Chronicles of Narnia now have their own decorations.
Bacon Soda
Of course if my bookshelf gets a decoration, Hubbin needed something for his "Man Shelf".  This soda is from the same shop as the Turkish Delight and we spent the day shaking our head in joy and disbelief over this wondrous find...and no we haven't tried it yet.
Book Gifts
The whole point of this trip was to get gifts for others, more specifically our five nephews.  This pile of packages are all books for the boys.  We do get them toys, but we pride ourselves in also being the "Book Aunt and Uncle" that send at least one book with every package.  This year the ages range from 2-7 so we got to get a variety this year.
Yep so that is how me and Hubbin shop, we are like two little kids who need constant supervision.  We got sugared up, caffeined up, bought ourselves stuff we like and then proceeded to hit the bookstore TWICE to load up on literary awesomness for our families.  Hope everybody else is getting some reading/shopping time in.  I am off to finish my book so I can ramble about it tomorrow.  Happy Reading Everybody!

So far this is shaping up to be a fantastic Christmas for me, now to go hit the stores and finish my shopping for others.  Happy Reading Everybody!

The Games Afoot

The holidays are a time to get together with friends and family...and annihilate them at card and board games!!!  What...is that just my family?  Is making your baby sis cry over a game of Life not what you are supposed to do when you all finally get together?  Oh...oops...sorry baby sis.  Well maybe we can play some of these literary themed games and talk about books instead :-)
Bookopoly
I LOVE books and I LOVE Monopoly...so who is getting this for me for Christmas?
Pride and Prejudice: The Game
Pick a couple, race to the church, who knew P&P would provide so much action!
The Little Prince: Make Me A Planet
I would love to play this nostalgic game with my FIL
Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective
This game lets you actually use clues to solve the cases, sounds like my kind of game
Clue: World of Harry Potter
This is something my whole family could have fights...I mean fun with :-)

In all honesty, playing games with my family and friends is one of the things I look forward to most during our rare get togethers.  As insanely competitive as we are, we always have such an amazing time, laughing, fighting, cheating and discussing our favorite board games.  Who knows maybe one these games will be this years memory.  Happy Reading Everybody!

Making Bathtubs Reading Friendly

After an insane week/weekend and another crazy crazy week ahead all I want to do is slip into a nice hot bath and read.  Unfortunatly I have a bit of a clumsy side and tend to drop my wine and books into the water on occasion.  Here are a couple nifty inventions to help with my problem.
Bamboo Bathtub Caddy
This one is so awesome it even has a none spill spot for my wine!
Wire Bathtub Caddy
This one has lots of little nooks and crannies
Ebonized Tub Caddy
I really like the simple elegance of this one
I am sure my books would appreciate any one of these to keep them out of the water.  So if anybody needs a gift idea for their favorite bookworm...:-)  Until then I will go balance my book on one knee and wine glass on the other and hope for the best.  Happy Reading Everybody!

Smells Like: Fresh roses with a hint of lilac and hyacinth.
Smells Like: Sweet pipe tobacco, cherry wood and fresh rain
Smells Like: Cedarwood vanilla, fireplace and lemon
Smells Like: Oakmoss, clover, aloe, with a hint of sweet cherry pipe tobacco

There are a ton more of these on their site, so go check it out.  Also if you see a bedraggled bookworm panhandling by the side of the road, it is because I could not resist buying all of these...or I can just go bat my eyes at all my peeps and see if I can't get them to buy me some.  Happy Reading Everybody!

Gifts For Book Lovers

This month is the month of gifts, between graduations, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and Iamsosorryisaidthatstupidthingforthefiftithtime apology gifts there is a good chance you will be searching for the perfect gift for somebody this month.  If the person you are buying for is a book lover...or me :-)  maybe consider one of the following.
Reading Journal
This is a journal for a reader, it has space for everything, title, date, author, genre, and a zillion other things...in fact it is so perfect that I just got myself one!
Book Lamp
This would look great on a desk, or on a table in a library...'cause we all have libraries :-)
Clock Pendant
I love this pendant because you could give to almost any sort of book lover, plus it just looks really really cool.
Book Coasters
These would look great in any book lovers home, and may prevent some rings on books!
Novel Teas
Tea and Books, two great gifts to give to anybody on any occasion.
Hopefully this little cheat sheet will make the gift giving rush a bit easier to handle...or like it did for me, inspire me to buy two of everything so I can have one two :-)  Happy Reading Everybody!

It's A Wrap

Spent last night wrapping all the Christmas presents we were not gonna buy this year.  Seriously this happens every year, we decide that we will buy gifts for the nephews and just small token gifts or gift cards for everybody else and then we go shopping.  My Hubbin and I should never be allowed to go shopping together, our tastes, sense of humor, and monetary spending habits are near identical and it is very rare for one of us to be the adult and say "maybe Suzie Q doesn't need a thousandth candle holder even if it does have cats on it", it's more like "wouldn't this be perfect for Suzie Q it has a cat on it, she loves cats" and the other person is like "Oh that is sooooo perfect it will go with the other 999 cat related items she can't actually use but we get for her anyways, lets get it".  So anyways this leads to epic marathons of wrapping...which is fine with me 'cause I think it looks so pretty under the tree.  I also like to coordinate my wrapping with the tree each year 'cause that 's how I roll so it's always fun holding out for the perfect roll of wrapping paper.  Here are some literary wrapping ideas for you to coordinate with your bookshelves :-)
Christmas Book Wrapping Paper
Sorry for the blurry pic, but go to the site and check it out. it's pretty awesome.
Penguin Classics Wrapping Paper
I love the bright colors of this paper.
Vintage Book Pages
This would also be an easy DIY project
Book Bow
You can also use pages as accents instead of the whole wrapping (that is what I did this year)
Page Runner Package
Only attempt this if you are of a Martha Stewart type...or you are keeping it for yourself :-)

Hope you all have fun wrapping your presents in these awesome book related wrappings, keeping Christmas literary...just the way it was intended ;-)

Are you a wrapper or a bagger?  Do you coordinate your gift wrapping with your decor or do you just go to town?  What do you watch/listen/ignore while doing your Christmas wrapping?

Dewey Decimal

I love libraries. I love the endless possibilities that they offer to just about anybody.  I love that they have been around forever.  I love that you can have your own personal library right in your own home.  Here are some things that will let you keep a bit of your library with you at all times.

A vintage style poster to add some library art to your walls :-)

Hopefully this will inspire a trip to your local library, or maybe encourage you to make your own bookshelves into a home library, or maybe build a 33 story tower library in your backyard, each floor decorated by genre and/or theme filled with millions of books! :-)  Happy reading everybody.

Snow In A Globe

With all of the snow that has been flying around I feel like I have been stuck in a snow globe.  Here are some of our favorite literary moments that feel the same way.
Time Turner Snow Globe
I guess this is less a snow globe and more a sand clock, but still pretty cool.
Narnia Snow globe
I love how the whole thing is set on a book
Lord of the Rings Snow globe
The giant guardian statues was always one of my favorite parts of the story
Alice in Wonderland Snow Globe Bookends
Snow globe AND bookends, what could be better?
Romeo and Juliet Snow Globe
True love...before all the deadness starts :-)

Well it looks like the sun is starting to peak through, maybe I will get outside for a few minutes and maybe the feeling that I am trapped inside a snow globe will go away :-)  Happy reading

Traveling With My Books

I just got back from gallivanting all over the country side...in the middle of a snow storm no less and had a great time.  I have decided that one of the most valuable things a person can have with them is a really great book bag.  Now book bags are tricky because you have to take several things into consideration.  First of all they have to be big enough to hold a wide selection of books, because who knows what I will be in the mood for.  Second they have to be comfortable, because my Hubbin say's if I can't carry it myself it stays home.  You have to be able to access it easily and be able to see you selections.  Also I have found a couple extra pockets for chargers, book lights and monocles is very helpful (note to self get a monocle).  Here are a couple of bags that fit the bill.

What is your favorite book bag?  Does it surprise anybody that I have multiple bags for different occasions? What is the most books you have ever brought with you on a trip?
