Finally starting to settle into the new house. Boxes are starting to get put away, we have painting and bookshelf installation planned this weekend, it's all starting to come together. While I was at the station this weekend, Hubbin took a break from unpacking to do some exploring...and guess what he found? A Barnes and Noble, a Starbucks, an ABC store AND McKay an awesome used bookstore that had been recommended to me by my awesome driver...who also happens to be part of my impromptu fire station book club, all literally less then 5 minutes from my house.
When I got back from my 48 hour shift, Hubbin took me to McKay's and told me to go to town...7 books later we finally decided to go make dinner as I don't even have a place to put the books yet :-) I feel that this is a sign we absolutely chose the right house...even if we won't be able to pay the mortgage due to the spending of all our money on books ha. Now to find the other bookstore recommended by my other fire house buddy and I will be good to go! Happy Reading Everybody!

Firehouse Book Club
As if my firehouse wasn't awesome enough, a sort of impromptu reading club has spontaneously formed. A core group of us from various battalions and such have started reading, sharing and recommending books to each other. Eventually it gets to the point most of us have read the same book and then we gather around the dinner table excitedly talking over each about our love/hate/eh of the books until we are interrupted by a call.
It is awesome to walk into my bunk and find a book on my bed, or get a text that a new book is waiting for me in my locker, or have an eager fellow EMT/Firefighter flag me down in the hall with a new "you HAVE to read this" book in hand. This is my favorite thing about reading, you can ALWAYS find somebody else who shares that joy, and to find several someones in a place I love who share this literary passion of mine is just insanely wonderful. I hope you all find the same sort of serendipity in the places that you love. Happy Reading Everybody!

So Sleepy
Ahhhh, I missed posting yesterday, I am so sorry. I had a 48 hour shift and ran my poor little hiney off, seriously it is gone. I came home and immediately passed out until my sweet Hubbin came home from work and woke me up.
I promise to make it up with a nice long rambling tomorrow. But now I have to catch up on all the reading I missed over the last three days. Happy Reading Everybody!

I'm Supposed To Be Sleepeing
Was at the station all night last night and got a rare night with no late calls. So do I get a couple hours of extra sleep like a good girl?
Nope I read. So now I have no excuse to be tired today except that I couldn't put the book down...I swear it's like my own personal crack pipe sometimes. Oh well, better to be reading then pulling people out of burning cars...yeah. Have a great weekend and happy reading everybody, I'm off to bed to catch up on my sleep.

Holiday Update
Hello All, I hope you had a wonderful weekend full of food and reading. My Thanksgiving was amazing and so so so busy.
I spent the day at the fire station with my second family. I know you hear organizations like the military, police force and first responders talk about being family, but until you actually experience it there is just no way to describe the true feeling of family you get. We fight, joke, tease, help, laugh, yell and work just like a real family does. We had a full on turkey dinner cooked by one of our engine bosses, apple pie supplied by my sweet Hubbin who dropped in for a few minutes and a Monopoly game that lasted until 2:30 am...it would have gone on longer but we kept getting calls. I am so grateful for my family away from family.
Finally made it home around 10am on Friday and promptly passed out as I had not been anywhere near a bed for a really long time. Hubbin was great and took me out to dinner and a movie (Hunger Games: Catching Fire, based on the book of the same name, post to come soon.). Next day we decorated for Christmas using ornaments made out of paper printed with my favorite quotes and made our tree into a story tree (pics and stories to come later). I finished two books and attempted to organize my overstuffed bookshelves (no luck). Watched the mid-season finally of Walking Dead and saw some stuff that came directly from the graphic novels which was pretty cool. Also it is really weird to watch zombies and death when your pretty Christmas tree is standing right next to the television. We have been planning a trip to meet up with my insanely large and also just plain insane family (so excited!) and Skyping with my west coast family so that has been fun. I am gearing up for an incredibly hectic month so posting may be a wee spotty. I will try and be as consistent as I can and give you heads up when I will be out for a while. In the mean time I need some suggestions for a good Christmas/Holiday book. Happy Reading Everybody!

Asleep In The Stacks
So I being the genius that I am decided to pull another double shift at the fire station, with my big girl job in between, on my birthday, yep I'm a smart one :-) All kidding aside it was actually a lot of fun. It is awesome that I love my "volunteer" job enough to go sleep deprived for a week, just to have the opportunity to boss my unit. That being said I am a wee bit tired
All in all it has been an exhausting couple weeks, but my Baby Sis comes in tonight, so instead of sleeping we will be scaring ourselves silly with good old fashioned horror movies, followed by a day at the wineries and a meander through the bookstore...and then maybe I will attempt to get some sleep. Hope everybody has a great weekend. Happy Reading Everybody!

Lights And Sirens Baby
In addition to my regular weekend duty shift at the fire station, I get to do something special...
Yep, that is right folks, between this weekend and next weekend I get to learn how to drive this giant box full of patients, medical toys, and of course my frightened yet supportive crew down the highway with lights and sirens ablaze. Ok so maybe it will mostly be me cursing traffic and stuck at the stupid light that won't give me the green arrow, but hey it will still be fun. Hope you all have a fun and safe weekend. Happy Reading Everybody!
