Groceries And Books

Hola readers, how is everybody today?  I am absolutley exhausted.  Just got off a 52 hour shift at the fire house where I got to remember how much I love being an EMT.  Before getting to go to sleep, Hubbin reminded me that we probably should hit the grocery store so that I would have some food and wine when I woke up.  You want to know the best thing about grocery shopping?  It's right next to a Barnes and Nobles...one that has coffee in it!  So pretty much every time we go grocery shopping, we stop for coffee first.
And since we are already in a book store...yeah.  This has the wonderful effect of making the mundane chore of grocery shopping into a rewarding book and coffee acquiring trip.  Not so great on my bank account, awesome for my bookshelves!  Hope you all have a place to pick up books while doing mundane errands.  Happy Reading Everybody!

Warm Up With A Mug

It's that time of year again, the time of year that we all want to snuggle up in a blanket and read.  Of course to complete this pretty picture you need a big old mug of something hot.  It can be anything, coffee, tea, cider, cocoa, any number of delicious things that come in a mug.  Here are some perfect mugs to use to warm up with on our snuggly reading day.
Accio Coffee
If only it was this easy to refill my coffee!
Lord of the Rings Mug
Only true lovers of the Lord of the Rings will get this mug :-)
Disappearing Cheshire Cat Mug
Besides being an awesome original illustration, the cat disappears when you pour in a hot drink SO AWESOME!

Narnia Mug
Sigh...I still look in every closet I come across.
Game of Thrones Mug
Exactly what one needs after a night that is dark and full of terrors.

So for real though, anybody who sends me any of these will forever be on my favorite person list and get so much awesome reading vibes!!!!  I can't wait to go curl up with a hot brew and a good book.  Happy Reading Everybody!

Crazy Crazy Crazy Book Lady

Ahhhhhhhh!  This week (which still isn't over) has already been so crazy I don't even remember how to spell my own name.  This is why there was no post yesterday and why for the next couple of weeks coherency is going to be totally optional.
Crazy Book Lady Mug
Work has been insane (you would think I work on an ambulance or something) and I am headed out on a trip so I will try and get some posts lined up, but if there is a gap, please don't be too mad.  I am working on a system that will minimize these gaps so there is more consistency, but until then HAPPY READING EVERYBODY!!!!!!!

Coffee Is What I Need

Good morning...I think.  I have just come off an epic combo shift so I am super tired, but some coffee and a good book should fix that.

That should just about do it :-)  Happy Reading Everybody!

Coffee Contemplation

I love coffee, I love coffee, I love it so much that I am over here singing out loud about coffee as my co-workers look over to make sure that I am ok...so maybe I will quit singing about coffee quit so loudly. As you have read before books play a significant role in my own personal history, but what you may not know is I have been drinking coffee for as long as I have been reading books...in fact I may have been holding a cup as I learned to read...(I see it's gonna be an ellipse day...).  My Mamma grew up on a farm and in her house they got a cup of  coffee did chores and then came in for breakfast so she did not see anything wrong with giving her oldest daughter coffee at a fairly young age.  The other thing was my Mamma likes her coffee
wussy, sweet, and creamy so there was none of the bitterness that kids usually don't like.  Fast forward to the present and I now drink my coffee with the consistency of mud, the strength of battery acid, and nothing but a little cream to balance it out.  For that I blame my Daddy.  As the other adult in the house, not to mention one of the medical profession (ER docs for the win!) you would think that he would have nipped that coffee obsession in his way to young (according to those pesky so called health experts) daughter in the bud, but nope, he not only did not stop me, but he cultivated my taste for REAL coffee, not that flavored water stuff my dearest Mamma drinks.  Coffee plays a role in just about every memory I have, way back when I was younger I remember huddling over the heater grate with a blanket, a cup of coffee in my country blue plastic mug and my newest library book.  As I got older coffee became a family thing with a pot made by Daddy for breakfast every morning (Mamma watered hers down) making it possible for us to get out the door without killing each other.  I graduated to espresso drinks (Hey I'm a Seattle girl down to my coffee soaked bones) being the only 7 year old I know who would spend her allowance money on coffee.  Going to school in Seattle had it's perks because every high school had a coffee shop on campus, for real, I am not even joking, so that we could all get our fix before hitting class...I spent many hours discovering many books I was not supposed to read in those little coffee shops.  Moving to Montana for my Jr and Sr year made coffee all that much more important, which of course when my Daddy realized that all that coffee may not be the healthiest thing in the world and declared it of limits for the kids.  That is when I realized what an addiction is, seriously my grades dropped, I was an evil wench troll, I had major headaches, I felt horrible, I didn't even want to read and not just for a day or two either.  After that experience I never asked anybody why they couldn't just quit something like smoking 'cause there is no such thing as JUST QUITTING!  Needles to say Daddy quickly allowed me my coffee again, focusing on my younger sibs who were not quit as addicted as I was.  College years were rough on me, I was trying to do it all on my own, rent, work, school, theatre, friends, boyfriend, family, a lot going on and sometimes I just couldn't keep it together.  I knew though no matter how tough it was I could always run home for a cup of coffee.  I remember a particularly bad day...week...month, it
doesn't matter, all I know is I came through my parents front door, my Daddy took one look at me, handed me a cup of coffee, a special cookie, sent me up to my Mamma and promised to bring refills.  The best part about this memory is the love and comfort I got, I don't even remember what was wrong. Then the worlds best invention ever came along Barnes and Nobles and the rise of the book cafe.  Visiting for the first time was like a dream, I had to pinch myself, there were books, so many books, and coffee, so much coffee and I was encouraged to drink the coffee while reading books...I was never going to leave.  Life moved on and I met the guy who eventually become Hubbin and I knew he was awesome because he kept suggesting Barnes and Noble as a date place, and he would stay there with me for hours!  Seriously we thought about inviting the workers to our wedding we spent so much time there.  Eventually I moved away from my precious family, embarking on new adventures, but before we left my Daddy pulled (eventual) Hubbin aside and showed him the secret to happily living with me, and that was to make sure I had a cup of coffee before I ever got out of bed.  I am happy to report that I am the happy girl who has rarely been without a cup of coffee within minutes of
opening my eyes.  The funny thing is that Hubbin is now addicted.  Now that we are all scattered across the country I find my coffee time even more important, every time I sit down at a Barnes and Noble and sip my coffee while flipping through a book I feel connected to my Mamma, every time a sibling visits we start with a cup of coffee, every time I smell the aroma of fresh brewed coffee I feel like my Daddy is giving me a hug, when Hubbins family visits I impress his brother with my ability to find coffee ANYWHERE!  So yep coffee, books, and a few minutes to escape is all I need to be a happy girl!
Did you think it was possible for me to love anything as much as books?  What is your alternate addiction (other then books of course)?  How does one get a job drinking coffee and reading books?

What A Weekend!

As always seems to happen on Monday's had a great post planned and folks, I love you all, but I am just to tired to even spell my own name right now.  That being said the reason I am so tired is a good one.  Had weekend duty and ran my little hiney off, while hanging out with the awesomest crew ever!  We also had our installation night (where we promote officers, hand out awards, and drink more then is probably good for us).
EMT Field Guide
I was honored to receive EMT of the year for our department (yeah I've gotta brag a little) and then turned right back around and staffed some more :-)  I really love what I do, and books make those late nights a little easier.  So if you have a first responder in your life give them a hug and a Barnes and Nobles gift card (or Starbucks, we really like coffee too!).  Going to go hunt down coffee now.  Happy Reading Everybody!

The Most Wonderful Places On Earth

I've been planning my next trip to the book store which takes almost as much care as some people spend on their vacations.  What books do I need, what books do I want, which books will have to wait until next time, what is my back up in case they don't have one on my list, how much time should be devoted to just wandering the stacks until  a book speaks to me?  All of this planning got me thinking about doing a world tour, so to help myself plan I have compiled a list of all the book stores I want to visit in the world, here is the start of that never ending list.
Livraria Lello Bookshop
This absolutely gorgeous bookstore is in Porto, Portugal and yes that is a double red carpet staircase.  This stunning shop also features a stain glass skylight.

File:El Ateneo Bookstore.jpg
El Ateneo
This Brazilian book store combines my two loves, books and theatre.  This shop is actually in a converted theatre, retaining it's dramatic charm while giving me BOOKS!

Selexyz Dominicanen Bookstore
Selexyz Dominicanen Bookstore
This Holland bookstore is inside of a converted 13th century Gothic church.  History, beauty and books all rolled into one.

The Bookworm
This English language book store in Beijing, China has Whiskey Wednesday's.  That and it's fabulous name make it totally worth the trek.

El Pendulo
This book store in Mexico feature live greenery and trees, not to mention a cafe to load up on caffeine.  The perfect spot to enjoy the outdoor reading experience without all those pesky bugs.

What is the coolest bookstore you have ever been to?  How sad is it that so many of these great places are closing, especially here in the USA?  How many books do you think I have to buy to keep them all in business?

These Are A Few of My Favorite Things...

This weekend I got to spend time doing one of my favorite things...hang out at a bookstore!  I got to spend a couple of hours with one of my favorite book buddies (Baby Sis) perusing the book stacks, then we met up with two handsome fellows who plied us with our favorite drinks (double tall skim no whip mocha for me) and then we covered our table with all kinds of reading material.  We had everything from fantasy, to gardening, to guns and ammo, to home decor, to history.  Then we proceeded to spend the next couple of hours
just the four of us (Me, Hubbin, Baby Sis, Handy Bro-In-Law) discussing books, authors, what we like in books, what we hate in books, why movies should never be made into books except for of course the ones that should :-)  I was seriously in Heaven!!!!  I love it when my favorite (family, friends, books, coffee, expounding on the use of large words) things all converge into those few perfect hours that just help get you through life.  Thanks to all who participated and didn't tell me to shut up, even when my pontificating went a little over the top :-)
What are your favorite things?  What moments do you remember when everything was just right, even for just a little bit?  Should I quit using words over three syllables?

All My Favorites (In Book Form)

I am trying to drop a few pounds and as a result I have had to limit some of my favorite food and drinks, and now all I can do is think about them.  Here are some lower calorie alternatives to a few of my favorites.

Coffee

Vodka
Chocolate
French Fries
Ranch Dressing
What are some of your favorite foods?  Are they all as unhealthy as mine?  Have you had better success in eliminating them then I have?
Happy Birthday to my amazing Sister-In-Law "J"  I love you so much!
